Welcome to Richardsons Lake

The recent heat wave may be making things a little unbearable, but there's a way to beat the heat Richardsons Lake on Richardson Lake Road is giving county residents an option to take a respite from the balmy weather.

The 13-acre facility usually opens in mid-May in preparation for the Memorial Day weekend and has sun worshipers and fun seekers enjoying the amenities during the summer months.

The cool, clear water is as refreshing as it sounds, and Richardsons Lake offers wholesome, family-oriented fun, in a safe controlled environment. Profanity and public displays of affection are prohibited, said Travis Spears at Richardsons Lake.

"Security is on the premises at all times," said Spears. "We have certified lifeguards on duty at all times. The way the economy is right now, the weekend beach trip has become expensive. It's a great value. It's hard to find a place where you can come out all day and enjoy yourself in a family-oriented atmosphere. It's also a nice place to come out and socialize."

Water slides, diving boards and platforms are just a few of the amenities aquaphiles will enjoy. Richardsons Lake also has a beach volleyball court, pool tables and arcade games.

The concession stands offer pizza, nachos, hot dogs, drinks and candy, said Spears. Plans call for a small area to be paved, which will feature a tiki hut that will offer blended real fruit smoothies, he said.

Sunday was Michelle Chandler's first time at Richardson Lake. She came from Augusta and took the opportunity to spend more time with her children, Zach and Karen Cook. The casual and relaxed atmosphere has made the facility a popular family destination.

"I've heard people talk about it," said Chandler. "It's really nice."

Richardsons Lake is a natural spring fed body of water, said Spears. The facility also offers swimming lessons and lifeguard training.

"The water is constantly circulating through and cleans itself," said Spears.

Season pass prices are $110 for one, $175 for two, $215 for three, $245 for four and $35 for each additional member of the immediate family. Daily admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children 3-12 and seniors and children under the age of 2 are free.

Richardsons Lake is located at 919 Richardson Lake Road, Warrenville, and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday form 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 663-3600.
